7. Examples of accidents
From ITARDA's in-depth study database, this section introduces two case examples of crossing collisions involving senior drivers. Both accidents could have been avoided if the driver had stopped the car and confirmed road safety.

  Case 1

[Situation]
The driver (71, male) of a standard-sized passenger car (Car A) was aware of the stop sign at a blind crossroads but, although slowing down a bit, did not stop because he thought there was no traffic around.
As soon as he entered the intersection, his car was hit by Car B coming straight from the left. He had obtained his driver's license about 40 years ago, which means sometime around 1970.

   Case 2

[Situation]
The driver (76, male) of a standard-sized passenger car (Car A) proceeded into a familiar crossroads with a good view without confirming road safety or stopping, and subsequently crashed into Car B coming straight from the left. He had obtained his driver's license about 30 years ago, which means sometime around 1980.
