1. Overview of Vehicle Rollover from the Micro Surveys
  In our traffic accident surveys of 1993-2003, a total of 1,965 cases of four-wheeled vehicle accidents are recorded, with 595 accidents caused by a single vehicle and 1,370 accidents by two vehicles, as shown in Fig. 1. Of these, the number of cases where the vehicle rolled is 129 and 90, respectively. Especially in accidents caused by a single vehicle, a fairly high rate of 22% of these vehicles, or 1 in 5 accidents, experienced a rollover. Comparing these two accident groups in terms of fatality rate, as shown in Fig. 2, occupants in a rolling vehicle are more prone to death. Vehicle rollover is clearly a dangerous accident for its occupants.
