1. What Time of Day Do Most Accidents Occur?
Figure 1 shows the component ratios of minor-injury accidents, serious-injury accidents, and fatal accidents for each hour of the day. Regardless of the seriousness of accidents, there was no tendency toward more accidents at night than during the daytime.
The numbers of minor-injury and serious-injury accidents peak during commuting hours in the morning and in the evening, while the number of fatal accidents peaks in the evening. This apparently reflects people's lifestyle patterns rather than whether it is daylight or not, in other words, the volume of traffic (the number of people out on the road). However, the peak in the number of fatal accidents in the dusk suggests that fading daylight could be the cause.
