1 Outline of Crossing Collisions (using data from 2003)
Figure 1 shows the percentages of accidents by type. Crossing collisions account for 26% of accidents and are the most frequent type of accident following rear-end collisions. The percentage of fatalities by type of accident is shown in Figure 2, which shows that crossing collisions account for the most number of fatalities in vehicle-to-vehicle accidents. Figure 3 shows the interrelation of the vehicle types of the primary and secondary parties involved in crossing collisions. Motor vehicles were involved in 96% of accidents, while mopeds and motorcycles were involved in 16% and 6% of accidents respectively.

Figure 4 shows the percentages of primary parties, defined as the more negligent of the drivers, by age group in accidents involving mopeds and larger vehicles. First, a look at all accidents (all types of accidents) reveals that the percentages of senior citizens 65 years old or older and younger people 24 years old or younger are higher than any other age group. Also, a comparison between crossing collisions and all accidents shows a noticeably increasing trend in the percentage of senior citizens as primary parties.
