5. Reasons for notable increase in fatal accidents from evening to late night during rainfall |
The following section divides each day into two time periods - (1) 5:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., when there are the highest number of fatal accidents during rainfall and (2) 3:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., when the number of fatal accidents is roughly the same as during periods of no rainfall - and compares the factors involved in these fatal accidents. |
(1) Characteristics according to circumstances Figure 6 shows the number of fatalities per hour according to vehicle type, during rainfall and no rainfall, for the two periods 5:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Each time period has its own characteristics regarding accidents involving vehicles and pedestrians. |

Figure 7 reveals that on a per hour basis during rainfall there are more fatalities involving passenger vehicles, motorcycles with engines of over 50cc, and pedestrians during the time period from 5:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m. than the time period from 3:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. |
